The Spring 2024 Meeting on Zoom was held on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 6:30 pm.

Mr. Graham Perry
Historic Cemetery Preservation Specialist to Speak at Spring Meeting
When it comes to learning about our ancestors, one of the first places most of us have gone is the cemetery where they are buried. It is amazing how much we can learn from being in the space where their loved ones grieved, where we often discover previously unknown family members, or even where, perhaps, they fell in battle. What can we do to make sure these sacred places are preserved for future generations?
TDHS is excited and honored to welcome Graham Perry, Historic Cemetery Preservation Specialist for the Tennessee Historical Commission as our featured speaker for our upcoming Spring Meeting set to begin at 6:30 p.m. on March 3, 2024, on Zoom.
Mr. Perry is a native Tennessean with roots in both Nashville and Memphis. He has a BBA from Belmont University, an MA in African American History from the University of Memphis, an MA in Education from Christian Brothers University, and completed PhD coursework at the University of Memphis prior to returning to Nashville in 2008 to serve as Curator of Social History at the Tennessee State Museum where he curated several award-winning exhibits.
Since 2019, Mr. Perry has been developing the Tennessee Historic Commission’s Historic Cemetery Preservation Program, the purpose of which is to provide information, education and other resources to help facilitate historic cemetery preservation throughout the state.
Mr. Perry will describe what the Historic Cemetery Preservation Program does, explain the process and criteria for a cemetery to qualify for the program and answer general questions regarding cemetery preservation in Tennessee.
